This plugin has two elements. They solve different problems and they are set up very differently. Knowing which one you need is the single most useful thing on this page.
| Conference Room | Live Stream Player | |
|---|---|---|
| Think of it as | A video call | A television |
| Who speaks | Everybody | One broadcasts, everyone else watches |
| How many people | 6 to 9 on screen | Unlimited |
| Delay | Under a second | 2 to 6 seconds |
| What you must set up | A LiveKit account and a small token server | Nothing. Just an address |
| Setup time | About 30 minutes, once | About 2 minutes |
| Cost | Per participant per minute | Per viewer per minute, far cheaper |
If you only need people to watch something, you only need the player. Skip Part 1 entirely. It is by far the easier half, and most apps never need the other.
A webinar uses both at once: the speakers are in a Conference Room, and everyone else watches the same event through a Live Stream Player. That is how you hold an event for a thousand people without paying for a thousand seats in a video call.
Stated plainly, because finding out later is expensive:
